How to prevent static hair

Cooler weather and a new autumn jacket. Are you experiencing that your hair is getting more static right now? Then you are not alone!

Static hair occurs due to friction between your hair and other objects, such as a hairbrush, your jacket or a scarf. When the friction occurs, electrons are transferred to the hair and give it an electrical charge.

Static hair is especially troublesome in dry conditions, making it common in fall and winter. The cold air outside and the heat inside create dry environments, causing the hair to become more electrically charged. If the hair is also "dry", the static effect worsens.

Here are our best expert tips on how you can avoid your hair becoming static!

  • Use a shampoo with the right pH and moisture. Super Gentle Wash or Color Lock Shampoo if you wash your hair often without using a lot of styling products. If you use styling – choose the shampoo that suits your hair or scalp. (This is really a choice between sulfates or not.)
  • Use conditioner.
  • Pamper your hair with a hair treatment a few days a week. Choose a regimen that suits your hair type.
  • Use a brush made of natural material or a wide-toothed comb: Brushes and combs made of metal should be avoided if you have problems with static hair, as they can aggravate the problem. Instead, choose brushes made from natural materials such as wood or bamboo.
  • In fact, the best option is to avoid brushing your hair altogether. Static electricity is made worse by the extra friction that a brush creates. If you need to detangle your hair, try a wide-toothed comb combined with an anti-static spray to reduce friction and static build-up.
  • Antistatic cream or spray: Controller, Flexi Spray and Leave in Cream protect, strengthen and build up your hair.

  • If you use heating tools, you absolutely must not miss using Heat Protection Spray
  • Avoid synthetic fibers in clothing.
